#52sparks: The View From Here

Today, October 13, is the final day to register to vote in Oregon. With so much happening in the world that is outside of our control, 5 minutes to register and 5 minutes to fill out a ballot is completely doable.

See more details at When We All Vote.

I’ve tried to add a second section to this blog post multiple times. I start into a new paragraph on knowing my city through runs in familiar neighborhoods, only to hit delete before the final sentence. I try again with a focus on the literal storms outside that reflect the chaos that is our country this year, but feel too gray to try that path. And again with details about different artwork and expressions of creativity I have seen in the lawns of my neighborhood (including one that add a new sign every week). And yet it still falls to the delete button.

So I’ll let this post remain very incomplete.

Vote. Your voice does not have to be loud, your language does not have to be perfect, your speech does not have to be long. But your voice needs to be heard.

Incomplete is better than silence.

“We are the spark, that will light the fire that’ll burn the First Order down” (Poe Dameron, Star Wars: The Last Jedi). – #52sparks is my year-long writing series for 2020, based on an art prompt challenge. The spark that lights a fire to toast a marshmallow or to ravage a forest begins in the space of an inch. This series is to explore what hundreds of inches and words can do.
