#52sparks: Artist’s Choice

For this week’s 52 sparks post, I want to primarily let the picture tell the story. And what that story will be is for you to discover.

This spot is from Esplanade Loop in Portland, a paved area near downtown Portland that  is popular for runners, walkers, bikers, and wanderers. It is one of my favorite spaces in this city. This photo is from a little over a month ago, when the cherry blossoms were in bloom and we were not sheltering-in-place. It was also a March day when the snow came down, giving protection from all of the tourist and Instagram mobs.

Look over this picture and think what you would do with this space on that day. And then perhaps look back your own photographs from a month or so ago. Where were you happy? Plan for that to be one of your first places to be when this season ends.

“We are the spark, that will light the fire that’ll burn the First Order down” (Poe Dameron, Star Wars: The Last Jedi). – #52sparks is my year-long writing series for 2020, based on an art prompt challenge. The spark that lights a fire to toast a marshmallow or to ravage a forest begins in the space of an inch. This series is to explore what hundreds of inches and words can do.
