#52sparks: A place you want to visit

Vatican City. London. Tokyo. New York City. Havana. Cape Town. New Orleans. Cairo. Paris. San Diego. Moscow. Jerusalem. Sydney. The North Pole.

To chose a place I want to visit is like choosing a favorite student, the best sunset, or one route to run for the rest of my life. Simply impossible.

Instead I want to go back to the places I’ve been before and to all of the places I’ve never been. I love returning to spaces because it includes time to remember who I was, to appreciate who I am, and to hope for who I will be. And new places provide new connections, insights, and experiences that could not happen in the comfort of normal.

So as I wrestled with this art prompt all week, I finally settled on lyrics from the Muppet Movie:

Close to my soul, it’s so far away
I’m going to go back there someday

Home is where the heart is. And my heart is, as always, at the starting line; searching for #WhatsNext.

#52sparks is my year-long writing series based on an art prompt challenge. The title is inspired by a quote from Star Wars: The Last Jedi: “We are the spark, that will light the fire that’ll burn the First Order down” (Poe Dameron). The spark that lights a fire to toast a marshmallow or to ravage a forest begins in the space of an inch. So just imagine what hundreds of inches and words can do.
